Acne can be a sore spot - literally - on even the most beautiful faces. Laser acne treatment at our Los Angeles / San Fernando Valley dermatology center is an effective solution for teens and adults who want to free themselves from the discomfort and emotional stress that comes along with active acne, or the damaging appearance of acne scarring. We use the Smoothbeam laser, which has received very high marks from our patients.
Active Acne Treatment
Unlike other therapies that address bacterial symptoms only, Smoothbeam treatments target the source of acne - overactive oil glands. The laser applies gentle pulses of energy over the treatment area. The energy penetrates deep into the skin to normalize oil glands and decrease their capacity to create acne.
A study of patients who received Smoothbeam treatments found that most saw clearing of acne lesions after 4 monthly treatments. Here are some of the most important things you need to know if you are considering Smoothbeam at our Burbank treatment center.
Number of Treatments Required:
In general, 4 to 6 treatment sessions will be scheduled, with the exact number depending on the severity of active acne or acne scars and how well the acne responds to each treatment.
Treatment Interval:
Initial sessions will be spaced out about 2 weeks apart, and then 1 month apart once active breakouts have been controlled. In between each treatment you should see gradual improvement - a decrease in active acne and/or less noticeable acne scars.
Treatment Time:
Each acne treatment session will last about 20 minutes, slightly longer if a larger area such as the back is being treated.
Recovery Time:
Mild redness is seen immediately after treatment, but this typically subsides within a few hours. Makeup may be applied immediately.
Results:
Laser therapy for acne is an effective solution for painful, active acne as well as the scars it leaves behind. Acne improves and scars can diminish greatly after a series of treatments. Keep in mind that results will vary from patient to patient.
