" I used to be perpetually embarrassed by thick dark hairs on my face. When I shaved, it made me look almost as if I had a beard! When I waxed, my skin would get irritated and break out. The laser treatments by Dr. Zaks have made me feel feminine and pretty again." Annette R.

Laser Hair Reduction is a safe, gentle and quick way to remove unwanted, excessive and embarrassing hair growth.

By using targeted flashes of light that reach deep into the hair follicle to the hair root, laser treatments "damage" the hair root so re-growth is limited. Because the laser light is only attracted to the color cells in the hair itself, these treatments do not damage your surrounding skin tissue.

It is important, however, to have laser treatments performed by a skilled physician or laser nurse. Improper selection or use of medical lasers by poorly trained "technicians" can lead to scarring and severe hyper-pigmentation.

At Superior Beverly Hills Dermatology Clinic, Inc., Dr. Zaks performs all skin laser treatments to ensure you are not subjected to this risk. This is especially important if you are of Latin, Asian, Middle Eastern or a mixed origin as your skin can more easily become hyper-pigmented by incorrect settings or technique.

The LightSheer system incorporates the ChillTipâ„¢ technology , which continuously cools the skin. This unique feature helps to:

maximize treatment effectiveness

protect against skin damage

minimize any discomfort

allow for treatment of all skin types

Hair grows in cycles. The hairs in an active growth phase are most affected by the laser treatments. Since all hairs are not in this phase at the same time, several treatments are necessary to achieve the best results.

" In a key Harvard study, all 92 patients treated had complete or near complete temporary hair loss. Almost 90% of patients experienced significant, long-lasting hair removal, or permanent hair reduction, with no serious side effects observed."

Your sessions will typically be scheduled four to six weeks apart. The number of sessions are based on the areas you want to have treated, the amount of hair, its thickness, and color.

What does laser hair removal feel like?

Most often treatment sensation is like a slight tingling or the sting of a snapped rubber band. Most patients tolerate the procedure well; topical anesthesia is rarely required, but may be an option when treating more sensitive areas. With special settings even sensitive areas like the lips, ears, nose, underarms and bikini line can usually be tolerated easily.

What will my skin look like after treatment?

There may be some short term swelling or redness that typically goes away within a an hour or two. The best news is that many of the unwanted hairs are gone at the end of the treatments.

Women who experience sudden hair
growth should consult with their
physicians, as this may be a sign of
other medical conditions.
